Define the event and name it clearly

Start with a title that includes the occasion, place, and year when useful: “Lee family picnic, Riverbend Park, July 2023.” If the event spans several days, include a date range. Avoid labels such as “summer photos” unless that is genuinely the scope. Add a one- or two-sentence description covering why people gathered and who organized it. This small amount of framing keeps the album understandable even when the people, routines, and locations are less familiar years from now.

Select a story-sized sequence

Choose an opening image that establishes the place or occasion, followed by a mix of group shots, individual portraits, activities, and details. Include the people who were central to the event rather than only the most visually polished frames. Aim for enough pictures to show the shape of the day, but not so many that a viewer cannot find the important moments. If several images are nearly the same, select the clearest or most expressive one and keep an alternate only when it adds someone or something important.

Add context and review the result

Caption the key images with names, activity, location, and date. Use consistent names and add broad keywords for the event and place so the album is easier to find later. Before considering it finished, view it from beginning to end and ask whether a person unfamiliar with the day could identify the occasion, main participants, and approximate order. Check that the album title, cover image, and description still match the final selection. Keep the album as a view of the library rather than using it as the only place where the photos are organized. Review it briefly after a few months, when missing context often becomes clearer.
