Home Wi-Fi question
Why does a mesh Wi-Fi point keep going offline?
Questions with the same meaning and scope are grouped here; questions with different scope stay separate.
Quick answer
Current answer
If a mesh point joins successfully but later goes offline, check its power, location, and connection back to the rest of the mesh before changing the whole network.
Check whether the point is actually offline
Use the mesh app to see whether the point is missing, restarting, or merely reporting a weak connection. Check that it has power and that its outlet, cable, and power adapter are secure. If possible, see whether devices near that point are also losing coverage.
Work from simple to disruptive
1. Restart only the offline point and wait for its normal startup state. 2. Move it temporarily closer to a working mesh unit. 3. Check the mesh app’s connection test or status. 4. Look for a pattern: after a power interruption, at a particular location, or only after it has been moved. 5. Check the manufacturer’s support page for software updates and model-specific recovery steps.
How to interpret the test
If the point stays online when moved closer, its original location may not provide a reliable link. If it remains offline even beside a working unit, the point, its power, or its setup state needs closer attention. If all mesh points lose internet at the same time but stay visible to each other, follow the whole-home internet path instead.
Reset carefully
Do not reset the main router because one point drops out. Resetting the affected point can remove its setup and should follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Get help when
Contact the manufacturer when the point repeatedly disappears with confirmed power and a nearby test location, or when the app reports a hardware, compatibility, or update problem.

Before making disruptive changes
- A reset can remove the point from the mesh; do not reset the main unit first.
Scope & boundaries
- Applies when
- Use when: - the mesh point has already been successfully added to the mesh; - the infrastructure node itself repeatedly becomes offline/unavailable.
- Does not apply when
- Excluded when: a new point cannot join the mesh in the first place → A1-05; the point remains online but the mesh test says the link is weak → A1-29; client devices drop in one area while the mesh point itself remains online → A1-20; the entire router/mesh system loses internet but nodes remain connected locally → no-internet branch..
