How do I set up a new mesh Wi-Fi system?

Start with the main unit
A mesh system normally needs one unit to become the router for the home. Connect that unit to the modem, ONT, or existing upstream gateway as your manufacturer directs. Use its setup app or web interface to create the Wi-Fi name and password. Before adding anything else, connect one phone or computer and confirm it can both join Wi-Fi and open a normal website.
Add points in a useful order
1. Put the next point near the main unit for its first setup. 2. Add it through the manufacturer’s app or setup flow. 3. Wait until the app reports that it has joined. 4. Move it toward the area that needs coverage, rather than placing it immediately at the far edge of the home. 5. Repeat one point at a time. 6. Run the system’s connection or mesh test when it offers one.
How to read the result
If the first unit cannot get online, this is a main-router or internet-connection issue, not an extra-point issue. If the network works until you add one particular point, focus on that point’s joining process. If every point joins but a distant room is still weak, placement or the link between points is the better next direction.
Before making disruptive changes
Do not reset every unit at once. A factory reset usually removes its existing setup and may require you to rebuild the network. Follow your model’s instructions when changing an ISP gateway or replacing the main router.
Get help when
Contact the manufacturer if the app cannot identify the primary unit, repeatedly fails while adding a point beside it, or reports a compatibility problem. Contact the ISP when the main unit is connected correctly but the incoming internet service itself is not working.
